If you liked DOOM, and who didn't, then you will like Ultimate DOOM. Ultimate DOOM: Like DOOM, but more ultimate Overall, Doom is a legend and if you haven't played it yet then go get it now and witness it in all its glory. The music is also pretty sweet and it's worth downloading on to your MP3 player. The control is pretty tight and it runs smooth and fast. The use of satanic symbolism and imagery made it a controversial game back in 1993, though it may look a little tame by today's standards it gave you a sense of dread back then. Doom pulled of some pretty impressive graphics and lighting effects at the time and some pretty graphic gore ef fects. The gameplay is pretty simple, shoot demons and zombies and get to the end of the levels. Doom starts of with short and easy levels and then they tend to get more difficult and lengthy(especially in the later levels) andyou have five difficulty levels to choose from. However something evils slips through and demons pour in through the gate transforming and killing everyone. The story is that you are a space marine imprisoned on the UAC Phobos base and they begin to experiment with teleportation. Often hailed as the best video game ever, Doom has gone on to become one of the most influential, legendary, and controversial games ever created and today it holds up well. This game is definitely worth picking up. It's a simple game, nothing like most modern first person shooter games, but the simplicity of it is part of what makes it so entertaining. While the levels have a maze/puzzle like feel to them, the focus is always on killing monsters. Game play involves wandering through corridors and buildings in search of keys, weapons, and ammo, annihilating demons and zombies along the way. I believe the demo can also be downloaded from id software's website. To test out the program before buying, I'd recommend downloading the shareware version off the internet, which includes the first 9 levels, all but 2 of the weapons, and all but 4 of the monsters. Whats really cool about is that it runs without the CD after it's been installed. However, for a 15 year old game it runs incredibly well. Also I haven't been able to get the mouse working. It runs very smoothly, the only consistent problem I've had with it is that the music gets screwed up if I've left my computer running to long without restarting.

Ultimate Doom also features 640x480 resolutions and customizable WAD support you can download and install files that alter textures, monsters, and weapons. There are also helpful items strewn about including radiation suits (for navigating toxic pools), security and combat armor, berserk packs, invulnerability, invisibility, and medikits and stimpacks that heal your character. Each weapon has corresponding ammunition pickups including shotgun shells and clips. While surviving the cruel landscapes is an absolute must, it won't be easy - there are vile monsters roaming the hallways. Levels generally incorporate dimly lit hallways, complex installation layouts and nightmarish cathedrals with demonic pentagrams and flickering lights. While the original levels have been left intact, Thy Flesh Consumed was created by veteran players. Ultimate Doom features hellish first-person action through 27 original levels (the first three episodes of Doom included) and an all-new nine-level episode. Needless to say, this is a snafu to the "nth" degree. You must stop the monstrous onslaught on Phobos before the destructive reign of terror reaches Earth. As the lone survivor of an elite space marine organization, the fate of mankind is resting on your shoulders.
